Assassin's Creed Odyssey - First Look
Assassin's Creed Odyssey, developed by Ubisoft Montreal, will mark the 11th main entry to the series. Set in Ancient Greece, you're able to play as Alexios or Kassandra, giving a little more customization than in previous games. Further to that end, Odyssey will also feature branching quests and more dialogue options than offered by previous entries. You'll be able to choose a side in the imagined Peloponnesian War, and there are also three classes to invest points in to, and NPCs which are able to be romanced. Overall, these all sound like welcome changes for longtime fans of the series who may be looking for more of a change.
During the demo at E3, players had the option of checking out a large-scale battle, naval mission, or to visit Socrates to test out the improved parkour system and some dialogue options. Everything felt familiar enough but still fresh and fine-tuned, as is pretty usual for each new addition to the franchise. One thing that did stick out as newer was item rarity, which further reinforces the new focus on RPG elements. Opening the map revealed various different islands, giving the impression of a significant area to explore.
Overall this looks like another solid addition to the franchise, although time will tell if there are enough new features to justify not taking a year off of development.
Assassin's Creed Odyssey releases October 5, 2018 for PC, Xbox One and PS4.
